About Us
When a mission has a clear goal, it becomes a purpose, not a charity! That is the aim of WOMB (Women Owned Minority Businesses) when it was first ideated in 2020. The pandemic has affected millions of women in India, whose sole income was housework in residences. Without any supplemental skills, these women were left with no backup options and their families were impacted and left destitute.
Being a part of WOMB also ensures that they have a network of people supporting them in the future should they ever feel the need to reach out. By leveraging the skills of established individuals and organizations, we are creating a harmonizing relationship between the needy and those who are eager to help. Our goal is to maximize these relationships to help as many women as we can. Together we will rise.
Our Cause
In India, the tradition of wearing hand-sewn clothes is still very much alive. When housemaids from the slums of Dharavi, and states like Hyderabad lost jobs due to the pandemic, they were destitute as they did not possess any secondary skills. In teaching them basic sewing skills, our trainers not only provided them with supplemental skills but also created a market for their tote bags with corporations for gift-giving purposes. More than 12,000+ tote bags have been sold up-to-date.
Women who lost their jobs during the pandemic, and housewives alike were taught how to start their own small industries by our very own Neela from Women’s Welfare Organization, who is an expert soap maker. Up till now, 50+ women have learned these skills that they are currently implementing in their own hometowns to make a living.
Currently, WOMB has partnered with Deep Foundation to train young girls and housewives, in gaining skill sets to become dental assistants. In a 6-week program, over the course of a month and a half, full-time or 3 months part-time, dentists that are part of the organization train girls in learning skillsets to become dental assistants. They are then assisted in job placements after completion of training. This project has been underway for over two years, and 15-20 girls are trained every three months in this program.
